So on the 2nd of December, Abby turned 3. It was so crazy to think about. I look back on that day 3 years ago and cannot believe how lucky we were that Abby even made it. Don't mind me reminiscing, but it was a Friday, will wasn't really working because he was looking for a different job because he loathed his boss at comcast. So I was eating lunch, planning on laying down after to rest up for work and I drank a Dr. Pepper. Yes, I have no problem with caffeinated sodas and no problem with them during pregnancy. We give caffeine to preemies in the NICU so I just say I am giving my children their caffeine in utero. After lunch, Abby usually moved a lot more because of the sugar rush. She never did move the same as Ellie, because the placenta was on the front of my uterus, so it dulled Abby's movements. But this day she was not moving at all, and because of my sweet nephew Jack and his passing, I was alert to the spirit's promptings. I really felt like something was wrong and I called my OB's office and we headed down there. The nurse put me on the monitor and I could see that Abby did not look good. The health of the baby is watched with how their heart rate increases on the monitor. Well, Abby was flat. No increases at all. The nurse came in and looked at it and said she thought it looked okay and I said no it wasn't. So I begged to see the nurse practitioner. I was supposed to get an ultrasound on Monday because I was measuring small, so Mindy agreed to just do it. Well, Abby wasn't making any breathing movements on the ultrasound and her BPP, a score to measure well being, was low. Mindy also estimated Abby's weight at 5 lbs 10 ounces! Ha! So she called Dr. Barta and she said to go to Labor and Delivery. I was supposed to work that night, but that didn't matter. Dr. Barta did an ultrasound as well and agreed that Abby wasn't looking to good and that we should induce. My friend took care of me and Abby had multiple times that she dropped her heart rate during labor and I could not flip sides because her cord was compressed on my left side, so I was was complete about 33o am, and my nurse had told Dr. Barta to hurry and come, when I was 6 cm and my bag was bulging. But she lives in Littleton. So I waited because I wanted Dr. Barta to be there and when she finally arrived I pushed once and Abby would have fallen out except for the cords wrapped around her neck three times. At 422 am my little 4 pound 7 ounce baby was born and she was a fighter. Dr. Barta realized after and said she was so glad she listened to me because Abby might have been dead on Monday with how compromised she was. I had had a placenta previa for 28 weeks of my pregnancy and then on a chronic placental abruption, which means part of the placenta was pulling away from my uterus and not getting blood flow. So needless to say, Abby fought to get here against many odds and I am so grateful for my sweet, loving, passionate little girl who has tons of attitude to make up for her lack of height. She is truly a blessing in our lives.

I'm really glad that she's here too! It's amazing to think back on the births of our kiddies and how each one is SO different! So, we are going to UT in Feb/March...what are you guys doing? any trips to UT in the plans...?
That's an amazing story! I'm so glad you listened and that your little spitfire lived to tell the tale. Happy Birthday Abby!
