Wyoming White Out

I could not sleep Sunday morning, so after tossing and turning till 3 am, I decided that I would just start driving us since I could not sleep. We stopped in Cheyenne to eat at the Flying J buffet, which was not that great, but McDonalds was not open at 5am, which does not make since, because it is close to I-80, a major trucking highway, but oh well. Then we headed out west towards Utah to see family for the holidays. We were only on the road 5 minutes before the snow started blowing and the wind was gusting past 55 mph. The further we went along, the worse the white out conditions were. We called Will's mom, who looked on the computer and said that at Laramie there was a no unnecessary travel advisory, so even if we got to Laramie, we would be stuck. We flipped around on Vedawoo Road and headed back East. Will and I both thought, while the girls were snoozing, that I do not know how the pioneers did it. Will got out of the car to scrape some ice and when he got back in he was soaked. The pioneers were amazingly tough people and I do not think I could have pulled handcarts through that snow and cold. We were able to get going back East and saw that I-80 was now closed from Cheyenne going West. We probably just got on before they closed it. It was erie and spooky driving back towards I-25 because there was no one going East with us and no one on the other side of the road. We were the only ones on I-80 for 28 miles. We are so grateful that Heavenly Father answered our prayers and helped us to get back home safely. We are sad that we will not be in Utah for the holidays with our families, but we are so grateful that we were kept safe and alive.

When we got home we decided to set Ellie's bike up. Abby wants to be just like her big sister, so she kept trying to get on it. We will have to buy her a little tricycle in the spring so she can ride like her sister.

I guess from now on you should follow the road to our house and go I-70, at least if you get stuck, you can see me in Junction! We've been hit big on I-80 years ago and no longer go that way. Too bad you can't be with the family...maybe next week on New Years? Have a Merry Christmas anyway! and it was really good to see you guys the other night! Love you and your girls are too cute!
